Sector Scope

Our scope reflects our industry view and investment philosophy. By this we mean that there is no single technology which solves all energy issues. Rather, the interaction of different emerging technologies could have an enabling and leveraging effect such that the outcome is far greater than could be achieved with individual technologies.

We invest in OECD and select Asian countries leveraging our physical presence in London and Shanghai. It is impractical to address all energy issues. Therefore we have preferences which address critical needs and draw on our domain experiences. These are listed below:

  • High efficiency energy management, storage and advanced conversion technologies. These include fuel cells, hydrogen and related bridging technologies
  • High efficiency fuel processing and delivery technologies. Examples include emissions control technologies for pollution abatement
  • Functional/Advanced materials e.g. catalysts
  • Carbon capture and utilization from hydrocarbon fuels
  • High efficiency balance of plant components for advanced drive trains (e.g. air management systems, inverters and waste heat recovery)
  • Low cost, low carbon fuel generation technologies from multiple feedstock (e.g. agricultural waste to energy - steam, hydrogen etc)
  • Technologies which have strong market potential in Europe and Emerging Asia, leveraging our strong presence and network in China and Japan respectively.

We are neutral on the stage of investment and will consider early to late stage investments; the key facets being the attributes and commercial viability of the technologies, the right mix of people and the willingness and openness to work with us towards a mutually desired objective.
